Sandy Hertz is the Assistant Director of the Office of Environment within the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT).  She has been with MDOT since 2004 and brings over 20 years of experience in environmental protection to this position.  Prior to working for MDOT, Sandy worked for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources in the Watershed Restoration Division and spent five years with a private environmental consulting firm.  In her current role, she leads environmental compliance, stewardship, and sustainability policies and programs across all six MDOT transportation business units and the Maryland Transportation Authority. In addition, she oversees and coordinates environmental management activities in transportation planning, design, construction, operations and maintenance, and develops standards and guidance as needed.
